One of the most valued careers on the planet right now is engineering.  As our knowledge grows, our technology and ambitions become more sophisticated, our need for increasingly more skillful, more specialized, more experienced engineers grows.  The world faces incredible challenges today, challenges we don't even currently have the knowledge to solve and it will be engineers who will champion this cause designing new solutions to the world's problems and architecting new ways of fulfilling our greatest aspirations!

Engineering Career Tips

We often hear the lament of engineers struggling to find work so here are some suggestions to make yourself more employable both today and over the course of your career:

1. Ensure you pursue professional designations (P. Eng & PE)
2. Pursue experience in narrow fields as the increased specialization will make you more employable
3. Develop relationships across all aspects of the industry (for example not just other engineers but architects, and potential clients of the firms you work with)
4. Expand your skillsets by including business development and project management skills
5. Build your communication skills both written and oral (writing reports and giving presentations)

These will hopefully help you over the course of your career.

Priority Positions

Though we would love to say otherwise the reality is the majority of the engineers we hire are for intermediate and senior roles, very few junior and virtually no entry level roles.  We'd still invite you to send your resume but regretably we likely won't be able to hire you if you lack industry experience.

For those who possess experience our most highly sought after fields today are:

• Geotechnical engineers (especially with permafrost experience)
• Mechanical Engineers (especially for building services (HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, etc.) for commercial, institutional, and residential buildings)
• Electrical Engineers (again, especially as related to building services primarily for LV & MV)
• Civil Engineers (site, structural, airports, highways, etc.)
